Julie Needham

Julie lives and works in Leicester. Artists as diverse as Munch, Picasso, Bosch and Bacon have inspired her vivid imagination to develop her own imagery.

Julie’s first pieces exhibited by Woodbine were large collages, their technical structure reminiscent of stained glass, a medium in which she has worked for many years. Since then, she has increasingly reduced the collage element of her work, replacing it with painting and drawing.

Julie’s imagination works on faces, until they evoke an emotional response from the viewer. Her latest work, introducing the near human gaze of a chimpanzee or gorilla takes this empathy in a new direction.

Her work is to be found in both private and corporate collections.
